Talking Cars 391: Driving the Lucid Air

Plus, we discuss replacement tires for electric vehicles

Main theme: In this episode we spend some time dissecting the Lucid Air luxury sedan. For those who may not be familiar with Lucid, it’s a startup electric vehicle manufacturer that was founded by the ex-chief engineer of the Tesla Model S. We talk about the staggering $140,000 price tag of the Air Grand Touring Standard that we rented from Lucid, along with its dual-motor drivetrain, 900-volt architecture, luxurious cabin, and stunning—though in some ways frustrating—styling.

Audience question: This week we have a question from Mike in California, who asks about replacement tires for his Tesla Model 3 and how rolling resistance factors into Consumer Reports’ tire ratings.

    Jon Linkov

I owe my career to two fateful events: my father buying a 1965 Corvette and my purchase of an Audi A4 rather than a Chevy Tahoe. The Corvette jump-started my love of cars, and the Audi led me to automotive journalism, track days, and amateur car repair. In my free time I cycle as much as possible, no matter the season.
