Paradise Grills has recalled about 18,000 built-in gas grills because liquid propane gas can accumulate inside the grill when the lid is closed, posing a fire and burn hazard to users. Paradise Grills has received two reports of the grill exploding, causing severe burns to the consumers, according to a release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Consumer Reports does not currently test built-in grills, and therefore has not tested the models involved in the recall.

Details of the Gas Grill Recall

The recall: About 18,000 Paradise Grills gas grills. The recall involves first generation Paradise Grills Outdoor Kitchens, which are built-in grills that can have sinks, cabinets, or refrigeration units built into the base of the grill. The recalled models are the GX-3, GX-4, GX-5, GX-6, GX-7, GX-8, GX-9, GX-10, GX-11, GX-12, and GX-14; and the Tahiti, Fiji, Tropicana, Aruba 6, and Aruba 8. The model name is listed on the sales agreement. (These models typically run between $4,000 and $15,000.)

The risk: Liquid propane gas can build up inside the grill and cabinet when the lid is closed, posing a fire and burn hazard when users re-ignite the grill.

Incidents/injuries: Paradise Grills has received two reports of explosions, causing injuries to the users.

Where and when sold: Paradise Grills showrooms and at home, boat, and RV shows nationwide from January 2009 through December 2020.

The remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled grills. Those in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Texas should immediately contact Paradise Grills to receive a free new 16x4-inch stainless steel vent and schedule a free repair and installation. Consumers in all other states should immediately contact Paradise Grills to receive free shipment of the vent and installation instructions. Customers will be reimbursed for the cost of hiring a qualified professional or technician to make the repair and install the vent. (A copy of the installer’s invoice or billing statement for the installation service, marked "paid," is required.) Paradise Grills is also contacting all known purchasers directly.
